Puppy Programme
At Stu Phillips K9, we specialise in producing detection dog puppies with the right genetics, development, and foundations to succeed operationally. Our litters have gone on to work with law enforcement, customs, and specialist detection units in the UK and overseas.
We focus primarily on Working Cocker Spaniels and English Springer Spaniels, bred from some of the finest gundog bloodlines in Wales and across the United Kingdom. These breeds combine drive, focus, and environmental adaptability, making them outstanding candidates for specialist detection roles.
From the moment they are born, every puppy enters a structured development programme. This includes early neurological stimulation, progressive socialisation, and a series of age-benchmarked assessments to ensure consistent, high-level progress.
In addition to our own litters, we also source puppies from carefully selected, licensed breeders of Cockers and Springers. These partnerships provide access to generations of proven working bloodlines, ensuring every dog has the potential to meet the demands of real-world operational work.

At Stu Phillips K9, we supply carefully selected green dogs to clients in the UK and worldwide. A green dog is an untrained but highly capable candidate, chosen specifically for its potential to become an exceptional detection dog.
Each dog goes through an extensive selection process, where we assess:

The dogs we provide are bold, environmentally confident, and highly motivated, with strong play drive and responsiveness both on and off lead.
Green dogs are typically between 6 and 24 months old and are suitable for development across a wide range of detection disciplines. For specialist projects or bespoke requirements, we work closely with clients to identify the most suitable candidates.
All dogs are fully health-checked and supplied with up-to-date vaccinations and the necessary paperwork for international travel, where required. A detailed training profile is included with each dog, and supporting training videos can also be provided.
Part Trained Dogs
Part Trained
Our part-trained dogs are prepared and ready to begin formal training alongside a handler. These dogs have already undergone rigorous testing and development, ensuring they are confident, motivated, and primed for progression.
Each dog is individually selected to meet the client’s requirements. They are trained to search for a target odour — typically a tennis ball, Kong, or pieces of each — but can also be started on specific client-requested odours.
All part-trained dogs are conditioned to give a clear and reliable indication, usually a stand and stare, freeze, or sit response. This ensures consistency and clarity once they are introduced to formal detection training.

At Stuart Phillips K9, we are:

Depending on the discipline, we deliver each dog with a 5-day re-team course, ensuring that both dog and handler build a strong operational partnership from the very start. All re-team courses are delivered by Stuart Phillips himself, guaranteeing instructional excellence and operational credibility.
